Well , we have a winner for idiot of the week in DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. A wonderful example of youth gone wild (not girls gone wild, unfortunately). He is a prime example of the leadership and guidance that he received from John Calipari and the wonderful program at Kentucky. After spending the better part of 'almost seven months' attending UK, Cousins decided that he was mature enough physically and emotionally to join the NBA and play with adults.
He had a 'few' run ins whilst 'matriculating' at UK, including a shouting match with the coach that showed the ever so slick Calipari yanking him off of the court and screaming at him on the bench. "Oh, he'll mature", they said. "He just needs a little time", they said. His rookie season was filled with ups and down on the court, as well as several 'incidents', off of the court, including a screaming match with an assistant coach who dared to 'coach' him, amount other temper tantrums. His talent is considerable and they believed that he was growing into the player they hoped for when they drafted him.
Today I see that Cousins has demanded a trade and was banished from the game tonight against New Orleans for behaviour detrimental to the team. Here is a young man who has ass has been kissed since he was twelve years old by adults who wanted a piece of his talent, and has been given the right to behave any way he wanted without repercussions. He acted like a spoiled brat while at Kentucky and it was accepted. He acted like a spoiled brat last year as a professional and again today he is acting like a spoiled brat. The problem is that someone will look the other way and give him another chance.
I am all for giving people second chances, especially when a young person is involved. After all those in charge are supposed to be teachers and leaders who job is to try to improve those under them, but when it is a habitual problem, there comes a time to cut your losses.
Demarcus Cousins is fucking moron. He needs to be treated like the six year old that he is and have some discipline injected into his life. I hope that the Sacramento Kings cut him and file a law suit to ensure that he doesn't get his millions that are undeserved. Let him go and learn to play in the D-League, or Europe somewhere and see how his temper tantrums will go over, when someone can just tell him to 'fuck off' when he acts like a baby.
Wouldn't it be great if the NCAA would ensure that the young people that come into their 'league' stayed for at least two or three years, so these young men would have a chance to grow up a little before they go and try to compete with adults.
I am always astounded that whenever there is a bit of a lull in the stupidity of sports, someone jumps to the fore front. I don't know who it will be next week but sure as hell someone will act like a re-tard.
